Factual Friday: Zoe Says Goodbye

Image
To our followers, Today I am writing my last Factual Friday blog. It has been a delight working as WRL’s social media intern for the past 10 months, but alas, the time has come for me to embark on my next adventure. Before I do, I have a few more things I’d like to tell you. Today’s edition of (not so) Factual Friday: My Goodbye. (photo from pexels.com) I began this internship in July of 2020. At the risk of stating the obvious, last summer was a whirlwind and not in a good way. WRL became a wonderful source of consistency and a creative outlet amongst the chaos. What I wanted to do with this internship, and all I’ve really ever wanted to do, is create content that brings people joy. We’re all quite familiar with the notion that life can be scary and hard, so if something I wrote or created can provide comfort or an escape, then I’ve accomplished what I set out to do. In short, I started Factual Friday because knowledge is power. I really do think that the more you know, the fa

Factual Friday: The U.S. Court System

Image
I always have SchoolHouse Rock songs stuck in my head. I don’t even know how it happens, I haven’t watched SchoolHouse Rock since I took U.S. History in middle school. But unfortunately, this is my cross to bear. SchoolHouse Rock songs playing on a loop in my brain. Songs I didn’t even give permission to be in my brain! So at the risk of subjecting you to my innermost thoughts, I’ve chosen a Factual Friday theme in honor of SchoolHouse Rock. Today we’re learning about the U.S. court system. Who knows, this might even help you on your AP Government exam! (Photo from pexels.com) Hopefully we’re all familiar with the three branches of government. Just incase we’re not, we have the executive branch (the President, VP and Cabinet), the legislative branch (the House of Representatives and Senate) and the judicial branch (the Supreme Court and other courts). The judicial branch is more what we’re gonna be focusing on today so you can forget about the other two branches (for now, but ple

Factual Friday: Summer Job

Image
I know I keep saying it (because of how excited I am) but the semester is almost over. For a lot of us, the end of school comes with starting a new summer job. While the world is opening up again, getting a job is still hard. Like, a lot harder than I anticipated. But I did it! And you can too! So let’s set ourselves up for a summer of money moves (and fun of course): today’s Factual Friday is all about how to secure that summer job. (Photo from pixels.com) First thing’s first, in order to apply to a job, you need a resume. Here's how you make one. Once you have your resume made, here are the things potential employers will want to see on it: Identify keywords in the job listing: When looking at a job listing, glassdoor.com advises to, “ Create a list of skills, knowledge, and experience required for the position that match your experience. After you’ve created a list, identify the strongest matches. These will be the keywords you’ll use throughout your resume” (Glassdoor.c

Factual Friday: Venae and We "R" Listening

Image
Ladies, have you ever wondered how We “R” Listening came to be? Or how it operates or who exactly works for this organization? And also...what even is a non-profit? How do you start one? I’m about to take you behind the scenes to answer all of these questions because today’s edition of Factual Friday is all about Venae and WRL.      Let’s start with the woman, the myth, the legend, herself: Venae Fowler. Venae is the CEO and founder of WRL as well as a mom, a former model and one of the warmest and kindest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. When I asked Venae about her motivations behind starting We “R” Listening, she explained, “One day I was listening to...meditations and they asked, who are you? I thought, ‘I’m Venae Fowler, I modeled for over 20 years, I have a masters,’ and I was just thinking about who I am...Then it went deeper to ask not just who are you on the outside, but who are you on the inside and how have you given back? What have you done to make an

Factual Friday: Save the Bees

Image
Spring has sprung and with it, we start to see the return of insects. I’ll admit, I’m not a huge fan of insects, especially the ones that find their way into my apartment. However, I do recognize that some of them can play an important role in our ecosystem so as long as they stay out of my way, I’ll stay out of theirs. Unless of course, my Venus Fly Trap gets to them first…But today we’re here to talk about bees. People love to say “Save the bees,” dare I say it’s trendy to be pro bees. However, let’s explore why bees are so important and what it actually means to save them. This week’s edition of Factual Friday, is all about saving the bees. (Photo from pexels.com) First things first, let’s start with some fun facts about bees! According to earthday.org, “There are more than 20,000 distinct bee s
